Air Mail is seeking a Photo Editor to shape the visual identity of one of the most stylish and discerning editorial brands in the world. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands that the right photograph doesn't just illustrate a story—it is the story. The ideal candidate brings a sharp editorial eye, deep knowledge of the photo licensing landscape, and the taste and tenacity to source images that feel as considered and surprising as Air Mail itself.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Photo Research & Sourcing 
    • Research, select, and license photography across Air Mail's weekly newsletter, digital platforms, special packages, and editorial features. Build and maintain relationships with photo agencies and archives to ensure access to the best images across news, culture, travel, and luxury lifestyle.
  • Licensing & Rights Management 
    • Manage all photo licensing, usage rights, and clearances across Air Mail's editorial and commercial output. Track and maintain accurate records of licensing agreements, fees, and renewal windows. Work closely with finance and legal to ensure compliance across all image usage.
  • Editorial Collaboration 
    • Partner with editors and designers to develop the visual direction of stories from pitch through publication. Contribute to the overall aesthetic sensibility of the brand, ensuring photography choices feel cohesive, elevated, and true to Air Mail's worldly, insider point of view. Art direct photographers on assignment and provide clear, considered creative briefs.
  • Archive & Asset Management 
    • Maintain an organized, accessible photo archive and digital asset management system. Develop workflows and standards that support a fast-moving editorial calendar without sacrificing quality.
       

To best perform this job, you will demonstrate:

  • A refined, confident visual sensibility attuned to culture, fashion, travel, and current events. 
  • Fluency with major photo agencies, wire services, and licensing platforms (Getty, AP, Reuters, Shutterstock, and comparable sources). 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of assets under deadline pressure. 
  • Experience working with designers and editors in a collaborative, fast-paced editorial environment. 
  • Familiarity with DAM systems and standard industry tools for photo editing and asset management
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • 3–5 years of photo editing experience in editorial, digital media, or premium consumer publishing. 
  • A portfolio or body of work demonstrating strong visual curation and editorial judgment. 
  • Deep appreciation for Air Mail's voice, aesthetic, and audience.

  • The base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000. Final title and compensation will ultimately be based on the candidate's location, skill level and experience.
